The limited size of the area designated for this building still preserves the prevailing Mediterranean-style character of the buildings on this Eixample crossroads. This, together with the necessary attention to environmental factors, justifies doing away with the traditional chamfered-corner solution usually applied to street corners in this district.
An nZEB building demands solutions where environmental factors take precedence over other aspects involved in the shape and layout of the building. Careful planning of the living spaces in relation to their main uses and special attention to cross ventilation are key factors in the chosen solution.
The linear nature of the dwellings means the main part of all of them faces southeast; the aspect with most sunlight. This orientation requires special attention to mobile sun protection, which is essential in summertime. The opposing northeast facade is designated for the corridors and vertical access cores.
