The Plaça Botticelli development project is planned in line with the urban remodelling carried out along the Avinguda de l’Estatut between Estatut and Botticelli squares. The square was part of a system of green spaces and pedestrian thoroughfares in the centre of Avinguda de l’Estatut, which run below the level of the surrounding traffic. The remodelling of the lower section of the avenue altered the system and the square became a marginal and ill-fitting area in the newly designed urban space.
This project proposed developing the square to the same level as the rest of the urban space by constructing a car park in the empty space demarcated by retaining walls, using a large part of the existing structures as earth-retaining walls for the underground car park and a section of its entrance points.
The square will be planted with grass, trees and bushes. A turfed dune will create artificial landscaping, hinting at the natural topography, which has been drastically changed by the work carried out. This new topography is strengthened with higher vegetation on the deepest section of earth, the roof of the car park. A perimeter bicycle route allows access to the square and can be used for maintenance works.
This project also includes development of the central strip of Avinguda de l’Estatut above Plaça de Botticelli, which is planned as a landscaped space at the same level as the other pavements. It also defines the ramps and car park entrance shelters.
