The urban renewal of this block is linked to the transformation of the Estació del Nord into community facilities and the replacement of the train lines with a park and football pitch. The buildings along this frontage are gradually being replaced to adapt to the new urban situation. The proposed building falls within this replacement process.
The project we presented aims to restore the image of the courtyard galleries in the Eixample district that make up some light facades along the park frontage. The same facade opens into a courtyard, which draws natural sunlight into most of the properties and interior spaces of the temporary accommodation centre on the lower floors. This centre is arranged around the courtyard. Its communal and social spaces such as the dining room, living room, meeting room and the hallways, use or have visual contact with the courtyard.
The apartments are small and have one or two bedrooms, enable them to be grouped together and accessed by a corridor on each floor. The dining and living rooms have a light facing outside space, bringing together the property’s openings. The sun protection blinds prevent the dwellings from being overlooked.
